What Happened to Ed LeGault Inside Hartford Hospital?

Ed LeGault was a fighter. A proud veteran, a devoted father, and a man who believed deeply in taking care of his body naturally, Ed valued independence, faith in personal responsibility, and holistic health. According to his daughter Wendy, he was not someone who relied heavily on pharmaceuticals or doctors. He believed in vitamins, supplements, home remedies, and doing everything possible to stay healthy naturally. Those who knew him describe him as strong, compassionate, and selfless. The kind of man who would rather go without himself than take something another person might need more.

In December 2021, Ed became ill during the wave of respiratory illness sweeping through the country. Wendy and her family had already been using vitamins, nebulizers, hydration, and immune support measures at home. Ed initially tried to recover there as well, but his fatigue worsened. By Christmas Eve, he was admitted to Manchester Memorial Hospital in Connecticut before being transferred to Hartford Hospital. From that moment on, Wendy says her father entered a nightmare that would ultimately cost him his life.

One of the first things the family noticed was the immediate focus on Ed’s vaccination status. Wendy recalls hospital staff repeatedly labeling him “unvaccinated” in his records and treating him differently because of it. Despite never testing positive for COVID during his hospitalization, he was allegedly categorized as a “COVID pneumonia” patient, triggering a rigid protocol-driven course of treatment.

As the days progressed, Wendy watched her father become increasingly isolated from the people trying to advocate for him. Communication became difficult. Phones were unavailable, dead, or inaccessible. Family members struggled to get updates. Wendy says doctors rarely communicated clearly about treatment plans, risks, or alternatives. Meanwhile, Ed and his family repeatedly requested treatments such as ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine, budesonide, vitamins, and other therapies they believed could help. They were refused. The family says they were told these options were “not what we do here.”

Instead, Ed was given a long list of powerful protocol medications, including Actemra, Baricitinib, steroids, anticoagulants, fentanyl, Ativan, propofol, and vancomycin. Wendy later learned many of these drugs carried severe risks, including organ damage and kidney failure. She believes the treatments themselves caused a devastating cascade of complications that rapidly deteriorated her father’s condition.

As his oxygen needs escalated, Ed was placed on BiPAP. Wendy became alarmed when she realized he was deteriorating quickly after these interventions. She rushed to the hospital and found her father frightened and desperate, asking for different treatments and trying to advocate for himself. Not long afterward, he was intubated and sedated.

Then came the restraints.

According to Wendy, after Ed attempted to pull at cords and tubes, hospital staff physically restrained him and kept him restrained while heavily sedated. She believes her father was trying to fight against treatments he never truly wanted. The family later discovered Narcan had even been administered at one point — raising painful questions about the level of sedation and medication being used.

Wendy describes watching her once-healthy father decline into multi-organ failure while being denied meaningful nutrition, hydration alternatives, and treatments the family believed might have helped him recover. She says every attempt to challenge the course of treatment was dismissed.

Then came the pressure surrounding end-of-life decisions.

In the early morning hours before his death, Wendy says hospital staff contacted Ed’s wife and warned that his heart was failing and he would not survive. Under enormous emotional pressure and fear, the family agreed to a DNR order after previously insisting he remain full code. Wendy now believes the family was cornered into making decisions while exhausted, traumatized, and desperate.

On January 5, 2022, Ed LeGault died inside Hartford Hospital.

To Wendy, what happened to her father was not simply a tragic medical outcome. She believes he was caught in a system that prioritized rigid protocols over individualized care, denied informed consent, isolated patients from their advocates, and ignored desperate pleas for alternative treatment options. What happened to Ed reflects patterns reported by thousands of other families across the country, isolation, refusal of requested treatments, aggressive sedation, restraints, ventilator escalation, pressure for DNR orders, and the silencing of family advocates.

Today, Wendy continues speaking out because she refuses to let her father’s story disappear. She wants people to understand that behind every statistic was a human being a father, veteran, husband, and loved one whose life mattered.

Betrayal Project USA exists to give families like Wendy’s a platform to tell the truth about what happened to their loved ones and to expose what many believe were egregious crimes against humanity committed under the guise of public health. Our organization is made up largely of widows, widowers, survivors, and grieving families who experienced similar institutional betrayal firsthand. We are documenting these stories, preserving evidence, building a community of support, and demanding accountability and reform so these tragedies are never repeated.

If you or someone you love was harmed by COVID-related hospital protocols, shots, hospice actions, or other forms of institutional betrayal, we encourage you to document your story at Betrayal Project USA. Your voice matters. Your loved one matters. And together, we will continue exposing the truth and fighting for justice.
