Forced to Take the Shot—Then His Health Unraveled: John Falangas’ Final Betrayal
John Falangas had already survived more hardship than most people could imagine. Growing up in Athens during World War II and the Greek Civil War, he witnessed bombing and death at an early age. He later came to America, worked hard, and raised three young daughters as a single father. His daughter Christi Grab remembers him as strong, fiercely independent, deeply protective, and unforgettable—a true character whose children meant everything to him.
But during the COVID era, John’s independence was systematically taken from him.
After a fall in 2019, the State of Nevada determined that John could no longer live alone. He eventually moved to an assisted-living facility in Arizona near one of his daughters. He did not want to surrender his home or his freedom, but the decision was no longer his.
In April 2020, someone at the facility tested positive for COVID-19. Although John had no symptoms, he was moved against his wishes into a rehabilitation facility and placed in a COVID wing. He never became ill—not even while sharing a room with a severely coughing patient.
Because John was not sick, Christi says he was largely ignored. Staff told him they lacked the personnel to help him out of bed, placed him in a diaper, and left him bedridden. During six weeks of isolation, he developed painful rashes, bedsores, and severe muscle atrophy. His arthritis medication apparently was not being administered, and repeated PCR testing left him with nosebleeds.
Christi finally traveled to Arizona and threatened legal action before the facility released him. By then, the damage had been done. John, who could walk before entering the facility, would never walk again.
Then came another violation of his autonomy.
John strongly opposed receiving a COVID-19 shot, but Christi says the assisted-living facility required it. If he refused, he would have to leave—even though the government had already determined that he must live in a facility. He was trapped: forced to remain somewhere he had never wanted to live and forced to accept an injection he did not want in order to stay there.
On January 30, 2021, John received his first Moderna shot. Within hours, he called his daughters complaining of severe pain in the injected arm. John had an extraordinarily high pain tolerance, so his family knew that something was wrong.
By the following morning, his arm was severely swollen. He was rushed to Banner Baywood Hospital, where antibiotics failed to control what doctors diagnosed as a MRSA infection. His arm had to be surgically drained twice before a third, stronger antibiotic finally reduced the swelling. He then spent approximately six weeks in rehabilitation receiving intravenous antibiotics.
The hospital maintained that the infection was unrelated to the shot, despite its appearing in the injected arm within hours. The rehabilitation facility acknowledged the adverse reaction, and John’s family fought successfully to prevent him from being given a second dose.
Christi says her father was never the same afterward. His health steadily deteriorated.
Approximately one year later, John developed excruciating pain in the same shoulder. X-rays and an MRI found no fracture, but his condition worsened until he became cognitively altered and was hospitalized. After several days, doctors diagnosed septic arthritis and began aggressive antibiotic treatment through a PICC line.
Three weeks later, although he was not ready for discharge, John was transferred to another rehabilitation facility because the hospital needed his bed during an influx of COVID patients. His family was not notified. When Christi’s sister arrived to visit him, hospital staff said they had no patient by his name and could not tell her where he had gone. She desperately searched facilities until she finally found her father.
By then, John had endured enough. He told his family he no longer wanted to fight. He died only days later in February 2022.
Christi believes the mandated Moderna injection initiated the catastrophic reaction, prolonged decline, recurring infection, and chain of events that ultimately ended her father’s life.
